Laura Munson Coming Home To Lead Writing Workshop …

Editor’s note/clarification: The original headline said Laura would be leading workshops (plural), but she’s actually leading one writing workshop at Ragdale and two other events: a book signing/coffee/chat at Lake Forest Book Store and “an evening of conversation” with Jennifer Weigel of the Chicago Tribune at Gorton Community Center. GazeboNews hopes this didn’t confuse too many people!

Laura Munson

By Laura Munson, New York Times bestselling author and native Lake Forester

I’ve lived in Montana for 20 years, but Lake Forest will always be home. I’ve been writing since I was a little girl, growing up on Greenbay Road, and after years of hard work and rejection, I am now enjoying the journey of being a New York Times and international best-selling author. I have much to share about the mythic trenches of “failure” and the mythic altitude of “success” … and I’m coming back to Lake Forest in March to share what I’ve learned about empowerment, creative expression, and emotional freedom.

I’ll be doing three events, each one digging into a different component of my creative work: Writing, leading writing retreats, and speaking. Each event will be held in a place near and dear to my heart.

March 9th:
I’ll be taking my Montana Haven Writing Retreat to the prairies of Ragdale, where I used to roam as a child, creating stories in my mind, and pining away to someday be a part of those creative hallowed halls. This is a one-day workshop for anyone who seeks self-expression and word-play. No writing experience necessary.

March 12th:
9:00 am I’ll be at the Lake Forest Bookstore for a book signing/coffee…a place where I spent countless hours (in the old space down the road) talking with the owner, Cinnie, about someday being a “published author,” soaking up all of her pearls of wisdom, and reading everything she suggested. This wonderful independent bookstore has been over-the-top supportive of my book, This Is Not The Story You Think It Is and I can’t wait to chat with some of my home-town readers.

7:00 pm I’ll be taking the stage with Chicago Tribune Emmy-award-winning writer, Jenniffer Weigel, for an evening of conversation. This is the same stage where I spent summers doing plays with Group For — the first place where I felt self-conscious and nervous and insecure … and where I overcame those obstacles. It was largely because of Group For (and Phyliss Mount) that I have the courage and inspiration to be a public speaker, and being back on that stage will be so deeply full-circle!

Tickets: $15 pre-sale; $20 at door Pre-sales are encouraged!

I can’t wait to take a walk around Market Square, go to the Lake Forest beach and feel the pull of Lake Michigan, wander the prairies of Open Lands, and feel the haven of home. I hope to see you there!
